The DJI Mini SE is our top pick for best drones for beginners thanks to its easy controls and great features. With a control distance of 2.5 miles and flight time of 30 minutes, you’ll be able to explore and capture amazing footage without worry. The 12 MP camera takes great photos and videos, and the downward obstacle sensing system will keep you safe from crashing into objects. We also love the Dronie Mode, Circle, and Helix flight modes which add a bit of fun to your flights.
DJI Mini SE is a worthy upgrade from its predecessor DJI Mavic Mini because it is cheaper and has better wind resistance. The Mavic Mini had a level 3 wind resistance, while the Mini SE has level 5 wind resistance. Otherwise, the two drones have a lot in common, including the camera, controller, and transmission range.

The Potensic Dreamer Drone is our upgrade pick for best drones for beginners. It has a flight time of 31 minutes, a control distance of 2,600 ft, and a photo resolution of 13 MP. The video quality is excellent, with 4K/30 fps resolution. It is also wind-resistant, and the Beginner Mode makes it very easy to fly. The intelligent flight modes are a great way to get started with drone flying, and the Headless Mode is perfect for beginners. The Emergency Stop function is also a great safety feature. The removable joysticks make it easy to store and transport the drone.
The Potensic Dreamer drone compares favorably with the popular DJI Mini 2, which is just as capable of capturing great shots. However, the DJI Mini 2 is a more affordable option with 4K video capability. If you want something you can see at a distance, then the Potensic dreamer drone is a better option because it is a bit bigger.

The DJI Mavic Mini Starter Bundle is perfect for beginners. The drone is very lightweight and easy to fly. The 3-axis motorized gimbal gives you great stability and the Return Home function is very useful. The Find My Drone function is also a great feature. The bundle includes the mini drone, the controller, the battery, and the propellers. The extra Sandisk Extreme SD card is also a great bonus.
DJI Mavic Mini has a lot in common with the equally popular DJI Mini SE. The only difference is that the Mini SE is cheaper and has better wind resistance. You can opt for the DJI Mini 2 for better camera capabilities. It can shoot videos at 4K/30 FPS, while Mini SE and Mavic Mini are limited to 2.7K.
What it is: For general purpose. The drone will be used on different occasions - mainly for taking photos and video recording. However, the model can also be used for geographic mapping, hunting and fishing or just for fun.

The Holy Stone HS100 is really easy to fly and has a lot of features that makes it a great drone to learn on. The control distance is 600 m, which is plenty for most beginner pilots. The flight time is 18 minutes and it is very lightweight for a drone. The wind-resistant feature is great for beginner pilots who are learning to fly in windy conditions and the Altitude Hold is a great feature for those who are still getting used to flying at different altitudes. The one key takeoff and landing is also a very helpful. The 90° adjustable angle camera works nicely for taking pictures and videos. The GPS Return to Home feature is especially useful for beginner pilots who may lose track of their drone. The Follow Me Mode is great for those who want to take pictures or videos of themselves while they are doing something else. What’s more, the foldable propellers make the drone much more portable. The Holy Stone HS100 can be easily stored in a backpack or purse and taken with you wherever you go.
The Holystone HS100 is pretty similar to the equally popular HS100G. They have identical physical features and flight feel. The only difference between them is the camera quality. The HS100 has a better camera quality than the HS100G, that is capable of 1080p full HD recording, while HS100 comes with an upgraded 2K camera.

Why did it make our list?
Nice quality FPV
Quite durable
Several flight modes
Three speeds
What is not ideal about it?
Small battery capacity
Small camera tilt angle
With a control distance of 80 min and a flight time of 4-5 min, the BETAFPV Cetus Pro is perfect for those just starting out. It also has a weight of only 6 oz, making it very easy to maneuver. Additionally, the auxiliary flight function and three flight modes make it very versatile and fun to fly. The FPV camera is also a great feature, allowing you to see what the drone sees in real-time. Finally, the auto-hover and self-protection functions are extremely useful, ensuring that your drone stays in the air and doesn’t crash.
The BETAFPV Cetus Pro kit is identical to the original Cetus kit. The only difference is the drone. The BETAFPV Cetus Pro is more powerful with brushless motors and larger 40mm tri-blade propellers. It also has a longer flight time. The BETAFPV Cetus Pro is a worthy upgrade if you want to fly indoors and outdoors because it has a more powerful flight performance than the original BETAFPV Cetus drone.

The Ryze Tech Tello Mini Drone is one of the best drones for beginners due to its many features and affordable price. This drone includes a high-quality image processor, custom flight options, and EZ Shots making it perfect for anyone just starting out with drones. Additionally, the Tello can be programmed using Scratch, making it a great choice for those who want to learn more about coding. Lastly, the Tello’s SDK makes it possible for more advanced users to develop their own software applications for the drone, making it a quite versatile tool.
Compared to other toy-class drones like the DJI Mini 2, the Ryze Tech Tello Mini Drone is a worthy buy. Of course, the DJI Mini 2 is a better choice because it has a longer flight time and better camera capabilities. If you are on a tight budget, then the Ryze Tech Tello Mini is a better option because it is four times cheaper than the likes of the DJI Mini 2, yet it is a decent beginner drone.

The Potensic Upgraded A20 Mini Drone is a great pick for budget-conscious beginners. It’s easy to fly and has a lot of the same features as more expensive drones, but at a fraction of the price. It features a flight time of 15-18 minutes, making it great for short flights. It also has a one key taking-off / landing feature, as well as an auto-hovering function. With the Headless Mode and 3 speeds, you can customize your flying experience. And if you’re worried about crashing, the 4 propeller guards will help protect your drone.
The Potensic Upgraded A20 Mini Drone is an okay option for kids, but its upgraded version, the A20W is better for kids who are keen on taking up aerial photography and videography. There isn’t much difference between the two drones except that one has a camera and another doesn’t. Of course, the A20W is a little pricier, but it is just as light and compact and easy to fly.
When it comes to drones, there are a lot of options out there. It can be difficult to know where to start, especially if you’re a beginner. That’s why we’ve put together this buying guide. We’ll help you understand what kind of drone is good for a beginner and how to choose the best one for your needs.
What Kind of Drones Is Best for Beginners?
If you are a beginner, we strongly recommend buying an RTF drone that needs no assebbly and comes with a dedicated controller
When it comes to drones, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. The first is that there are two main types of drones: ready-to-fly (RTF) and bind-and-fly (BNF). RTF drones are just what they sound like—they’re ready to fly right out of the box. All you need to do is put in the batteries and you’re good to go. BNF drones, on the other hand, require a little more work. You’ll need to bind them to a controller that you already have before you can fly them.
For beginners, we recommend going with an RTF drone. They’re easier to set up and use, and you don’t need to worry about buying a separate controller. If you’re set on a BNF drone, make sure that you have a compatible controller before you purchase one.
How to Choose the Best Drone for Beginners?
When it comes to choosing the best drone for beginners, there are a few things that you need to take into account. To help you make the best choice, we have compiled a list of factors that you should consider before making your purchase:
Flight Time
One of the most important things to look for in a drone is flight time. You want to make sure that the drone you’re buying has enough battery life to last through your entire session.
Range
Another thing to keep in mind is range. How far away from you do you want your drone to be able to fly? Make sure to pick a drone with a good range so you don’t have to worry about it losing signal and crashing.
Ease of Use
Last but not least, you’re going to want to make sure that the drone you’re buying is easy to use. If you’re a beginner, you don’t want a drone that’s too complicated. Look for something that’s user-friendly and has features that are easy to understand.
The user-friendly features that starter drones have are things like auto-takeoff and landing, headless mode, and altitude hold. They make it easy to get started with flying your drone and help to keep it steady in the air.
Camera
If you’re looking to take pictures or videos with your drone, then you’re going to want one that has a camera. Not all drones come with cameras, so make sure to check before you buy. If camera is not something you need in your drone, check out our reviews of the best drones without a camera as well.
Photo and Video Resolution
When it comes to cameras, one of the most important things to look at is the resolution. The resolution is measured in megapixels, and the higher the number, the better quality the photos and videos will be. If you’re looking to take high-quality pictures and videos, then you’ll want a drone with a camera that has a high resolution.
Stabilization
Another important factor to consider when it comes to cameras is stabilization. This is especially important if you’re looking to take videos. Drones with good stabilization will be able to keep the camera steady in the air, even if the drone is moving around. This results in smoother, better-looking videos.
Size and Weight
Size and weight of the drone affect its portability, maneuverability and stability in the air
The size and weight of a drone can be important for a few reasons. First, it will affect how easy the drone is to transport. If you’re looking for a drone that you can take with you on the go, then you’ll want something that’s small and lightweight. Second, the size and weight of the drone will affect how stable it is in the air. Heavier drones are usually more stable, while smaller drones can be more maneuverable.
GPS
One last thing to keep in mind is that some drones come with GPS while others do not. If you’re a beginner, we recommend going with a drone that has GPS. It will make it easier to track your drone if it gets lost and help you to avoid flying it into restricted areas. We have compiled the list of the best GPS drones that are good for beginners as well as more advanced users.
Safety Features
When you’re first starting out, it’s important to make sure that your drone is safe. Look for features like propeller guards and emergency stop buttons. These will help to protect you and others around you in case of an accident.
Charging Time
Another thing to keep in mind when you’re choosing a drone is charging time. You don’t want to be waiting around for hours while your drone charges. Look for a drone that has a fast-charging time so you can get back to flying as soon as possible.
Noise
Last but not least, you’ll want to consider noise when you’re looking at drones. Some drones are quieter than others, and if you’re planning on using your drone in areas where noise is a concern, then you’ll want to choose one that’s as quiet as possible.
Price
There is a wide range of prices for drones, depending on the features and quality you are looking for. You can find basic drones for beginners that cost around $50-$100, or you can find more advanced models that cost up to $1,000. It all depends on what you need and want from your drone. If you want the most basic drone possible, you might find one in our list of the best drones under $50.
No, it’s not hard to learn to fly a drone. However, it does take some practice. We recommend starting in an open area with few distractions. Once you get the hang of flying, you can try more difficult maneuvers.
When you’re looking at drones, make sure to check for safety features like propeller guards and emergency stop buttons. These will help to protect you and others around you in case of an accident.
No, not all drones require a smartphone. Some drones come with their own remote control that you can use to fly the drone. However, many drones do require a smartphone in order to connect to the drone’s camera.
No, you cannot fly your drone over people. This is dangerous and could result in serious injury. If you must fly your drone over people, make sure to do so at a high altitude and with caution.
The DJI Mini SE drone, which is our Editor’s Choice, is very durable, easy to fly and control. It has a good-quality camera so you can capture your flights, and doesn’t require FAA registration. The Potensic Dreamer Drone is our Premium Pick on the list of the best drones for beginners. It has a built-in powerful 1/3 CMO Sony sensor with auto-exposure function and plenty of intelligent flight modes. The drone also records 4K videos and has Wi-Fi connectivity. The DJI Mavic Mini Starter Bundle is a great starter bundle that includes the drone, controller, battery, propellers, and an extra SD card. The DJI Mavic Mini is lightweight and easy to fly, making it a great choice for beginners.
