Why is it special?
The camera of this drone takes high-quality images and video, thereby presenting an FPV detailing. Also, as much as it can be used for indoor and outdoor activities, it prioritizes safety when in an enclosed environment. The Ryze Tech Tello is an all-around drone.
What are the flaws?
As much as this drone seems to have ticked all the boxes of a perfect drone, we found a shortcoming that many people might have a problem with. If only this limitation could be improved on, this drone would be called “perfection.” The Ryze Tech Tello is quite expensive than some drones available on the market. However, the Tello has a lot of features. In fact, its benefits are more than the cost of acquisition.
The Ryze Tech Tello is one of the best indoor quadcopters and the best indoor drone with a camera. Tello boasts of a high-capacity battery of 13 minutes astonishing long flight periods. It also has two antennas for additional stability during video transmission. This drone is packed with modern technology, including a DJI-powered flight controller, allowing you to perform amazing tricks, as well as a 5MP camera to take stunning photographs and videos.
We made this drone our first pick because it makes flying enjoyable and simple. The all-around quality this drone offers is unmatched. Controlling the Tello is easy as it can be programmed, and it is best for educational purposes. The benefits are limitless!

Why did it make our list?
This drone is fascinating. The First Person View goggles allow you to see every detail of objects around. It can be used by everyone – from beginners to professionals. You can easily learn the basics of flying it through the Level 1 speed mode. Finally, this drone is easy for beginners to learn how to control quickly.
What is not ideal about it?
The EMAX EZ Pilot is a great drone that incorporates the needs of beginners and professionals. All of its features are incredible, but it failed to clinch the perfect height because of its price. Many people, because of its price, consider other types of drones. If only the price could be reduced, it would be the best of the best indoor drones.
The EMAX EX Pilot features REAL First Person View Virtual Reality 5.8 GHz goggles that fit perfectly with professional racing drones. The 5.8Ghz goggles give you the full pilot experience. You get to see every little detail. It has three-speed levels. Level 1 is designed for novices, allowing them to learn and master their flying. Level 2 allows you to use the Self-Leveling feature as you fly. Level 3 is for flips performance. This drone can fly for 4 minutes without stopping.
We were intrigued with its functions; hence we had no choice but to include it in our list. This drone is best for both beginners and professionals. It has features that help everyone’s learning, transitioning, and expertise. For example, it has gyroscopic self-leveling and Smart Height assist, which allows you to concentrate on flying rather than throttle control to remain in the air.

Why did it make our list?
The Potensic A20 is small yet functions superbly, making it the best small indoor drone. It can be used by kids and beginners who are yet to get acquainted with how drones operate or can’t handle bigger drones. Also, it comes with safety features that ensure a safe landing.
What is not ideal about it?
As much as this drone is small, lightweight, and stable while in the air, it has some shortcomings. It’s ideal that you prepare yourself to mitigate the disadvantages before buying. When it’s windy, please don’t fly outside. Because the A20 is small and light, it is susceptible to being blown away by the wind. If you’re using it outside, don’t fly too far. It’s very small, and you can lose track of it.
The Potensic A20 is small, lightweight, and easy to control. Also, the altitude hold, headless mode, and One Key take-off/landing make it stable during flight. It can fly as much as 15-18 minutes without stopping. The drone comes with three batteries that serve as its power. Also, it has three distinct flight speeds and remote control that fits perfectly into kids’ hands for steering it in any direction.
It made our list because it’s the best mini indoor drone you can find. The Potensic A20 is so small that it fits comfortably in hand. Its design, ease of use, and quality make it stand out. With its altitude hold feature, you don’t have to adjust the throttle to stay in the air constantly. This drone is best for those who value safety features like an automatic landing, and a red LED at the back that flashes when the battery is almost running out. This tells you if you’re flying in a decent landing area.
What it is: For general purpose. The drone will be used on different occasions - mainly for taking photos and video recording. However, the model can also be used for geographic mapping, hunting and fishing or just for fun.

What do we love it for?
The Force1 Scoot is an incredible drone that erases the use of remote control as it incorporates the use of hand gestures. You get to perform flips, and kids can use the drone to play with their friends. Also, you’re rest assured that nothing will get damaged if it bumps into a wall or any other fixture. Besides, It has a novel control method. All you have to do is to read the manual and know how to fly it with your hands and throw flips.
What were we disappointed with?
Although the drone seems to be an ideal choice for your children, it has some disadvantages that you should beware of. Because it appeals to kids for fun, basically, it can’t be used by people who want to improve on their flying skills as it does not have any feature that allows that. Also, it does not have a camera, and that’s one of its disadvantages if you want to take photos.
The Force1 Scoot is a flying toy drone that appeals to children. This drone is not controlled by remote like other drones; rather, it is controlled with the hand. It’s made of a non-toxic, high-quality webbed shell that shields the hands, furniture, fittings, and walls from propellers while also protecting the drone from being damaged as it flies about any indoor environment. It comes with a USB charging cord and can fly for as much as 8 minutes on a single charge of 50 minutes.
Rather than using the standard remote controller, it prefers to get up and personal, responding to hand gestures from within a fully enclosed protective cage. It is great innovative fun for children of all ages because of its simplicity and complete finger safety. You can easily control the drone with gestures. The only time you’ll have to touch the drone is when you want to switch it on/off and when you want to charge it.

What are its best features?
The Syma X20 has features that align the drone with your controller, making flying and control much easier. This lets you not worry about where the drone is moving towards when it’s flying far away. It is also tiny, making it portable and easy to carry around. This drone is composed of strong materials, which makes it withstand a few crashes.
What could be improved?
The Syma X20 is one of the best indoor quadcopters you can find on the market. It has features that favor and regulate its movement even when a novice controls it. This drone has a lot of fantastic features, but it failed in two distinct aspects: it does not come with a camera and can’t be used in a race.
The Syma X20 is a mini drone that is designed to be compact and portable, with no too large joysticks and smooth features that allow it to fit easily into your pockets or small travel bags. Its compact size makes it the ideal indoor drone for maneuvering through tight angles. With a single button press, the remote control quadcopter will take off or return to the point from which it took off. It has two specific speed modes – high and low. The drone can fly for as much as 5 minutes without stopping with these modes.
This is a perfect drone for those who value portability. You can easily transport it around in your pocket or in a small bag. People of all skill levels (beginners, intermediates, and professionals) can fly the drone with flawless control and fantastic performance. It also has an auto hovering technology that keeps the drone autonomously steady and suspended in mid-air even when you are no longer controlling it.
Things to Consider
But before you buy one of the drones on the market for your indoor activities, you must know full well what you’re buying. To be of help, we’ve given a well-detailed explanation of how you can choose the best small indoor drone. But before that, let’s look at why drones are flown indoors.
Why Fly Drones Indoors?
According to the FAA
Trusted SourceAbout FAA | Federal Aviation AdministrationOur continuing mission is to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world.
www.faa.gov
, drones are now used for recreational, commercial, and military purposes. It has become an everyday life gadget
Trusted SourceFuture of Drones: Applications & Uses of Drone Technology in 2021 | Business InsiderWith drones being more widely used across many of the world top industries, see the current and future uses of the latest consumer, commercial and military drone technologies.
www.businessinsider.com
. A drone can be used at diverse places, including inside the house, office, hall, etc. It helps to give better coverage of images, videos, and activities happening. So, including a drone in your home or office gadgets is a wise decision.
Before stating why flying drones indoors is necessary, it is essential to note that flying drones in a place where people are many is to be done by an expert. This is to avoid injuries and damages that could be caused if a beginner were to be in control.
However, flying drones indoors is essential in crowded events where full coverage of activities is to be taken. For example, a sports stadium, concert, conferences, etc. Also, it is needed when a video tour is to be taken. A drone will show every corner and detail needed. In addition, the movement description that a drone gives is fantastic.
How to Choose the Best Indoor Drone
Explained below are the cogent factors you need to consider before you choose the best drone for indoor use.
Flight Time
A drone is useless if it can’t fly for some time in the air as that’s the place where it’s needed to function. Therefore, getting a drone that spends some time in the air before stopping is essential. So, you need to look at all the options you have to select a drone that stays in the air more. The Potensic A20 marks the box as the best in this regard as it keeps flying in the air for as much as 15 to 18 minutes without stopping.
The Potensic A20 drone can fly up to 18 minutes.
Speed
Depending on the purpose for which you want a drone, a drone should have more than one-speed mode. This is to be able to easily regulate how slow or fast you want it to fly. An indoor quadcopter usually has more than one-speed level to satisfy your preference.
Check thoroughly for the speed of the drone. How many speed modes does it have? If it has one, how fast is it? If it has more than one, how fast are they? For example, the EMAX EZ Pilot has 3-speed modes – level 1 is for beginners who are just learning how to control the drone, level 2 is for self-leveling purposes, and level 3 is for performing flips. You also have the Ryze Tech Tello, which has only one-speed mode, and it moves at high speed.
Age Limit
When selecting the drone to buy, make sure that you check the age limit to be sure if you’re following what the manufacturer recommended.
It is essential that you follow this as children below the recommended age can suffocate or choke on uninflated or broken balloons.
An example of a drone like this is the Potensic A20; children below 8 years are to be prevented from using them. Also, kids ranging from the age of 8 and above are permitted to use the Force1 Scoot, while the Syma X20 permits people ranging from 14 years and above.
Controller
Another important factor to check is how the drone is controlled. While most drones are controlled by remotes, some are controlled by other means. For example, all the drones in the review above are controlled by remotes, but the Force1 Scoot is controlled by hand gestures.
Sizes
Before you choose your preferred indoor drone, check for the size. Make your decision concerning how big or small you want your drone to be. If you prefer a big-size drone, the EMAX EZ Pilot is your pick, but if you want a small drone that can fit into your pocket, the Syma X20 is your pick.
The Syma X20 drone is designed to be compact and portable and can be put in your pocket.
Price Range
Price is a factor that many people consider even if they are not told to put it into consideration. The initiative is good as it will help you compare your budget with the price at which the drone is sold. Check your options for their prices and the amount of money you have. In the list above, the Force1 Scoot has the lowest price tag yet still functions very well.
Tips to Fly Drones Indoors Safely
Flying drones indoors could be dangerous, so it’s essential that you operate them safely to avoid havoc. Below are some tips that will help you in flying your drone safely.
Practice in “Altitude Mode” in order to know how it’s going to feel when you eventually fly it indoors.
Take away as many obstacles as possible that the drone might come in contact with.
Install propeller guards on your drone to offer protection in the event of a crash.
Don’t fly too high. Ensure that you don’t get too close to the ceiling.
Limit the drone’s speed. If you’re in a place where people are, it’s advisable that you reduce the drone’s speed to the least.
Yes, you can. But you’ll have to consider the applicable legislation around that flight. It’s safe to take an indoor drone outside if all the standards for legal flying are met. However, smaller drones might struggle with intense air if it’s a windy period.
Launching an outdoor drone inside the house can be chaotic as there won’t be enough space for it to move to hit the wall and other parts of the house. Also, the obstacle avoidance sensor of the drone won’t work efficiently as the space is too small for it to give excellent safety measures.
All drone legislation is created and implemented by the FAA because the association has power over the national airspace, of which airspace safety is a major concern. But the inside of your house, office and any enclosed space is no longer within the jurisdiction of the FAA, so they don’t have the power to dictate what is to be flown in the air. Therefore, you don’t need any license to fly drones indoors.
Our Verdict
In the article above, we’ve reviewed the 5 best indoor drones, but we can’t conclude without describing 3 of them that stand out.
First, the Ryze Tech Telo. This drone is the best of all the options on the list because of its all-around functions. It’s small and simple, yet it has a 5MP camera that takes quality images and videos. Also, it can be used for educational purposes. The second is the EMAX EZ Pilot – the best drone with an FPV camera. This drone is not just not made with strong materials, but it has three distinct speed modes that make it usable by everyone. It bridges the gap between beginners and professionals. Last but not least is the Potensic A20. This drone has the longest flight time, and it also has safety features like automatic landing and a red LED that signifies that the battery is running out.
We hope that now you can conveniently choose one of the best indoor drones with this review!
