What makes it special?
We chose this drone for a number of reasons, but we particularly love it for the mere fact that you get a lot of awesome features for a very reasonable price. We also like this model because of its ease of use and versatility. You have the option to fly it via the provided controller or by using the corresponding app, which is convenient for those who need visuals to work things.
What cons did we find?
Despite these perks, there are a few things to keep in mind with this one. The app only works when there's WiFi available, which can prove troublesome if you want to use it for content with no internet connection nearby. Some customers have also expressed concern about the camera malfunctioning or being difficult to work on their specific mobile device.
The Syma X400 FPV has a video capture resolution of HD 720p and has a flight time of 12 minutes (six minutes per battery). It doesn’t take very long to charge (approx. 90 minutes), and a full charge is indicated by the red charging light switching to green. To avoid rough crashes caused by battery power failure, the drone will sound a low battery alarm and land automatically after a minute of the alarm sounding.
This particular drone is perfect for beginners as it comes with an altitude hold feature, you can predetermine a flight path for it to follow, and a one-key start/landing feature. It’s also great for beginners because there isn’t much of a learning curve to it. The drone has a compatible app you can use to control it rather than the controller for those who prefer video controls.
What it is: For general purpose. The drone will be used on different occasions - mainly for taking photos and video recording. However, the model can also be used for geographic mapping, hunting and fishing or just for fun.

Why is it special?
The X500 made our list because of its excellent video quality. Along with this, the drone has a longer flight duration and an eco-friendly battery too. While flying drones is fun, it’s important to keep sustainability and the environment in mind. Rather than using alkaline batteries, the controller has a rechargeable battery, therefore keeping it out of a landfill for longer.
What are the flaws?
However, while this is certainly an eco-friendlier option, there are a few caveats to buying this drone. For starters, it's on the pricier end of the spectrum, so it may not be feasible for someone on a budget. Others have also claimed it doesn't do well if winds are more than 4 miles per hour.
The X500 drone has a wide-angle lens and 90-degree vertical angle to capture ultimate footage. It also has several features to prevent it from getting lost or crashing, including “return to home” and “follow me” buttons on the controls. The drone comes with a military-grade battery that allows for up to 28 minutes of fly time before needing a recharge.
Anyone looking for a drone with excellent video quality and range of motion should definitely consider this option. The drone’s video capture resolution is FHD 1080p, and the 4K camera has the ability to “circle fly,” which means you can plot more points on its course to auto-capture scenery. If you’re into nature photography and you want to get more perspective shots, this is the drone for you.

Why did it make our list?
We like this beginner drone for its value and for its ease of use. We also think the LED light is helpful, especially for those who want to try flying the drone at night. Along with that, its size makes it much easier to store without taking up too much space.
What is not ideal about it?
Although its size is nice for portability, that also means it’s easier to lose track of. If you do use this drone and plan to utilize the night-time LED light, it’s important to do so in an open area as this one doesn’t come with a GPS come-back feature as other Syma drones do. Customers have also complained that it's difficult to control in windy weather, and the battery life doesn't last as long as others.
The X20 mini pocket drone has a built-in battery that can be charged via USB, and the controller uses separate batteries not included. This particular drone has a flight time of approximately five minutes and has a control distance of roughly 66 feet. The pocket drone has many of the same features as regular-sized drones, and it also uses an LED light for night-time flying.
This one, in particular, is good for anyone looking for an inexpensive starter drone. While it’s much less expensive than other drones, it still comes with many of the signatures Syma features, including altitude hold, one-key take-off and landing, and headless mode, among others. Along with these, the pocket drone also has a 360-degree roll function.
What it is: For general purpose. The drone will be used on different occasions - mainly for taking photos and video recording. However, the model can also be used for geographic mapping, hunting and fishing or just for fun.

Why are we impressed?
We like this one specifically for its foldability. While drones are fun to fly, it’s important to store them safely. With foldable arms, it’s easier to do that and not worry about pieces getting broken. We also chose the X300 for our list because it comes with a built-in G-sensor for gravity control. This means you can control the drone by tilting your smartphone up/down/left/right when you control the drone via the app.
What negatives must you be aware of?
Despite the idea of g-sensors and gravity control, it can sometimes be tricky to get the hang of. This could lead to drone damage if you aren't careful while using the gravity control function. Customers have also complained that the drone is difficult to control when it gets high in the air, and they have also expressed concern over app links not working correctly.
The X300 is a foldable drone that offers 1080p in camera quality and 40 minutes of total flight time (20 minutes per battery). Like some of the other drones made by Syma, this one has a low-battery alarm and will force land after a minute to prevent crashing. It also has a 110-degree wide-angle lens to allow for a wider, more detailed shot.
This drone is ideal for those who enjoy nature and outdoor photography as well as those who want something that’s easy to put together and store. The drone comes with little to no assembly required, and because it folds, it’s good for keeping out of the way when you’re not using it. It also has a 360-degree flip function, which is great for anyone who likes to perform drone tricks.

What do we love it for?
We chose this drone for our list as it’s a classic Syma product and has been slightly upgraded. It’s inexpensive without compromising the product’s integrity and still comes with the standard features of SYMA’s camera drones. We also like it because it comes with an extra battery and the tools you need to switch the battery out when necessary.
What were we disappointed with?
However, this drone does have a few drawbacks. For starters, switching out the battery pack requires more than one tool and can prove to be cumbersome. Also, the camera doesn’t rotate and is completely fixed on the drone. This means you can’t get the 180-degree shots you could with a different model.
The X5SW-1 is a new edition of Syma’s original FPV camera drone. It comes with an LCD displayer to show flight states like timing and battery life. It also uses LED flashing lights for night-time flying. The camera connects via WiFi and has a 6–8-minute flying time along with a flight range of 50 meters.
The drone comes in an exclusive blue color, which makes it a suitable option for those who like color aesthetics. Along with that, it makes a solid choice for anyone who wants a longer flight range as it can go up to 50 meters (approx. 124 feet). The X5SW-1 is also a good choice for those who like performing tricks with their drone, as it has three separate maneuverability functions.
What it is: For general purpose. The drone will be used on different occasions - mainly for taking photos and video recording. However, the model can also be used for geographic mapping, hunting and fishing or just for fun.

Why are we impressed?
The Syma X9 flying quadcopter car drone made our list because of the play it offers. We like that you have the option of using it as an RC car or a drone, and you aren't limited to one or the other. We also like that this one comes with an extra drone battery to double your flight/drive time. It also comes with extra blades, which are handy for repairing any damage it may sustain.
What negatives must you be aware of?
However, there are a few caveats with this one as well. First, the drone doesn’t come with batteries for your controller. Also, it’s purely a drone for tricks. It doesn’t come with a camera, and you can't mount one on it either, as it won't lift off if you do. The tires are also made of foam, so it's been reportedly difficult to use on any terrain that isn't flat.
This Syma quadcopter doubles as an RC car and comes in two different navigational modes: beginner and expert. Its battery life lasts approximately 10 minutes on a full charge and is made specifically for outdoor terrain. This car/drone hybrid comes in an exclusive black color with yellow flames on the sides.
For those searching for a drone with versatility, this is a solid option to consider. Because it can be driven or flown, the person controlling has two different ways to play with it. There are two different speed modes for both flying and driving, rounding it off with four speeds altogether. This is also a solid contender for those looking at drones that will allow them to perform tricks on.
What it is: For general purpose. The drone will be used on different occasions - mainly for taking photos and video recording. However, the model can also be used for geographic mapping, hunting and fishing or just for fun.
Why did it make our list?
We chose this drone as the final one for our list because of its unique features. While other RC helicopters only have overhead propellers, this one has the extra side propellers to help with balance and control. We also like it because although it’s RC-powered, the radio signal it uses is interference-free.
What is not ideal about it?
While we like this helicopter for its uniqueness, it does have a couple of drawbacks. For starters, there's nowhere to mount a camera, and it doesn't have one installed in it already. It could be improved a bit by adding a camera to add more versatility. Also, because it charges via USB, you need to be careful not to damage the port while flying it.
The Syma S40 is an RC helicopter that has side propellers in addition to the traditional overhead propellers used. The flight range on this model goes up to 50 meters and has a flight time of approximately 10-12 minutes. The battery in the helicopter is rechargeable and can be done so through a USB connection.
This helicopter drone is a good choice for anyone interested in helicopters or planes. Regardless of whether you’re 14 or 40, the Syma S40 gives you the dream of being a pilot, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Its bright LED light also makes it ideal for anyone who wants to use it during the night.
Things to Consider
For over a decade, Syma has proven its spot among the top drone toy sellers. Regardless, it’s still important to make mental notes of each feature as they’ll play a major role in your decision for a specific model. Are you looking for a camera drone or one solely for flying and tricks? Do you need a small model to tote around on the go or a more heavy-duty machine?
Each of these questions is valid, and knowing a little bit more about things like dimensions and control range are going to help you make sure you choose the best option for your needs.
Advantages of Syma Drone
Drone flying has become a favorite pastime among children and adults

alike. Throughout this time, Syma has grown into one of the best high-quality drone makers in the business. Although they’ve gained this reputation, they keep their prices reasonable, and they have an option to suit any budget.
The company creates several different drone types, too, so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for. These include GPS and non-GPS smart drones, folding drones, RC helicopters, and RC boats.
Important Features
Before plunging into your first (or fifth) drone, you need to note important features like dimensions, flying time and range, charging times, camera features, and anything extra you may feel will help you meet your drone goals. Let’s take a deeper dive into the important features to consider when buying a drone.
Dimensions
The dimensions are important because the size of your drone will constitute when and where you can use it. It’ll also make you think about storage. If it doesn’t come with a carrying case fit for its size, you’ll have to think about purchasing a separate one to prevent damage.
The dimensions of your drone are also significant because all drones that exceed 0.55 pounds need to be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration
Trusted SourceHow to Register Your DroneAll drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown exclusively under the Exception for Recreational Flyers.
www.faa.gov
(FAA). You also need to wait to fly your drone until you receive the physical copy of your registration certificate in the mail. Failing to do this may lead to hefty fines, so you should consider this before choosing your drone. This isn’t a dealbreaker, but you need to be willing to wait for these before you legally fly your drone.
Flight time
Flying time is also important to consider because it varies with each drone. Flying times will typically range from 5-8 minutes. However, we’ve seen drones that can last up to 28 minutes on a single charge, like the Syma X500 4K drone. What you need to decide is whether you want to use your drone for a little bit of fun or if you prefer something that will last longer in the air.
The duration of a drone’s flying time relies on the type of battery it uses for power. For example, a mini drone, like the X20 mini pocket drone we mentioned in this article, uses a small internal battery that gives you a short fly duration. The X500, on the other hand, uses a large military-grade battery that allows it to travel for much longer.
Charging time
Because different drones use different batteries, the amount of time it takes to charge the battery is going to vary. Charging times typically range from 50 minutes to three hours. You’ll find that smaller drones charge much quicker than larger models, but longer charge times mean more battery power to work with.
The charging time matters most if you need a longer-lasting battery for photography or videography. This is especially true if you plan on being out and away from a charging area for long periods of time. You wouldn’t want to run out of battery before you were able to get that perfect shot, would you?
Control range
The control range is also another important consideration for those using drones for their camera functions. A longer control range means you can get shots from higher up without losing control or a connection to the drone. Control range also varies widely anywhere from 66-10,000 feet.
Many drones will also come equipped with a “return home” feature. Return home features allow the GPS to automatically navigate its way back to its starting point when it loses connection to the controller.
Camera
A camera isn’t necessarily an end-all-be-all feature, that is, unless you want a drone so you can take pictures or video. If that applies to you, then paying attention to the camera/video quality as well as its lens range and other pixel qualities is essential.
It’s important to note that camera drones tend to be bigger and heavier than their counterparts. They’re also on the higher end of the price range, so budget is important to factor in here too. The most important thing to consider if you’re planning to purchase a camera drone is the number of pixels the camera accommodates as well as the resolution allowed for video.
You’ll also want to look for what type of camera it is. If it’s a fixed camera, it’ll only shoot from a “straight-ahead” angle. However, a gimbal camera can rotate and move up to 180-degrees.
Extra features
Along with the features mentioned in this section, there are a few extras that are worth keeping in mind while you shop. For starters, having a drone with built-in GPS is extremely helpful for keeping track of where it goes. If you lose track of your drone, you can consult the GPS to find its last known location. Some drones even use the return home feature if they get lost by utilizing the built-in GPS.
Another feature to look out for is how the drone is controlled. While drones always come with controllers, many can be connected to an app via Bluetooth or WiFi. When you connect your drone to an app, you also have the ability to use visual control. This means you can see where your drone is going while you fly it.
You’ll also benefit from noting any unique sensors the drone offers. These could be anything from low-battery alarms and automatic low power landing to collision avoidance.
In most cases, drones are marketed for children as young as eight years old. While this is technically a developmentally appropriate age for a drone, it should be left up to the parent to decide if their child is developmentally ready to use a drone on their own. If you’re a parent/guardian and you’re concerned, you may choose to watch them for the first few uses until they get the hang of it.
A drone needs to be stored in a climate-controlled location to avoid heat or cold damage. Some drones may come with a carrying case, while others may have compatible cases that are sold separately. However, it’s not required to store your drone in a case. As long as it’s stored in a safe place at an ideal temperature of 68-77-degrees Fahrenheit, your drone will be fine.
How often you can fly your Syma drone will depend on the drone’s battery life. Technically speaking, you could fly your drone any time it’s charged. However, we recommend waiting until it’s fully charged before setting it off. It’s also smart to give it a break throughout the day to avoid overheating its internal system.
To use the camera function on your Syma drone, you’ll need to either use the button on your controller or use the corresponding app for your drone. On your controller, there should be a button in the middle. Once you press that, it should take the photo, and an indicator will switch from red to green to show you it went through. To do this on the app, you can do so in a similar way using a push button on the screen.
Our Verdict
Whether or not Syma sells high-quality drones isn’t up for debate. We know Syma drones have superior quality without breaking the bank either. The X400 FPV is our favorite pick here because it’s great for beginners, and it’s compatible with the SymaGo app.
The X500 4K is the best option for photography and videography. The X500 also made our list because it’s the most eco-friendly of all our picks. Lastly, the X20 is the perfect option for those who want the same or similar Syma features without spending too much.
Whether you want to go with the X400 FPV (our favorite), the X500 4K (the premium pick), or the X20 (the best value), or you want something different altogether, and the best Syma drones have been laid out right here for you.
