  • Why is it special?
    • The build quality lives up to DJI's reputation: excellent. The device is completely streamlined, no wire sticks out. The components are only visible on purpose through the translucent top cover which can also be replaced by a neon green cover supplied in the box. The build quality lives up to DJI's reputation: excellent. The device is completely streamlined, no wire sticks out, which we liked. The components are only visible on purpose through the translucent top cover which can also be replaced by a neon green cover supplied in the box.
    What are the flaws?
    • The drone is too heavy and could be more transportable. It cannot be folded up for transport. Its arms are securely screwed to the frame to ensure good rigidity. However, its 5-inch propellers can be assembled and disassembled without tools. It is nonetheless easy to transport without risking damage.

A choice of fans of racing drones and one of DJI’s latest products, the DJI FPV drone is placed halfway between the stabilized flying camera (like the Mavics) and the racer that you pilot with a mask in first-person view (FPV). A real thrilling machine, it’s a ready-to-use solution. The package comes with the drone with its integrated 4K camera, radio control, and compatible FPV mask.

Contrary to what one might fear when discovering the first visuals, the DJI FPV is much more compact than it looks. It’s stocky, but doesn’t take up much more space than most racing drones (25.5 x 31.2 x 12.7 cm, propellers included). It is also less than a DJI Mavic Air 2 when unfolded. The DJI FPV is simply much thicker and quite heavy, weighing 795 grams (meanwhile, the Mavic Air 2 weighs 570g). However, the arrival of DJI in the world of racing drones does not translate into an increase in the complexity of use. The device arrives ready for use. All you have to do is insert its imposing battery, plug it in, then turn it on after having previously started the radio remote control and FPV headset.

  • Why did it make our list?
    • We liked the automatic flight modes of the device, as well as its compactness, battery autonomy, control system, and image quality. The Mavic Air 2 comes with a brand new remote control and for most users a new application. The new "RC" is larger and heavier. After all, it now contains two 2600 mAh batteries, which allows it to power the smartphone and avoid giving up a flight because it would be flat. This remote control also and above all goes from Wi-Fi to OcuSync 2.0 home technology for the connection with the drone.
What is not ideal about it?
    • One of the downsides of the DJI Mavic Air 2 is the lack of side obstacle sensors. We also think that the quality of the DJI Fly application can be improved, although it's still a brand new system.

The new Mavic Air benefits from the more robust design of the Mavic 2. This new foldable quadcopter takes the lines and design of the Mavic 2: it is unfolded in the same way and the common sensors are in the same place. While it is significantly smaller and lighter than the Mavic 2, it is also significantly larger and heavier than its predecessor. However, it remains well below the threshold of 800 grams. However, we recommend that you take the online training course, which provides the basics for safe flying.

To compensate, the capacity of its removable battery increases from 27 to 40 Wh (+ 50%), and the autonomy increases even further, from 21 to 34 min (+ 60%). In practice, you can fly for a little more than 25 minutes while maintaining a safety margin. The recharge lasts 90 min. If the autonomy increases more than the capacity of the battery despite the increase in weight, it is in particular thanks to optimized propellers, with which it makes a more muffled and less unpleasant hum than its predecessor.

  • What are its best features?
    • The Anafi is compact but also light since it weighs 320 grams on the scale. The Anafi is long and thin when folded up. The construction is of good quality. The arm attachments are solid. The Anafi FPV will be perfect for all those who wish to learn about immersion flight, but also those who want to make unique and quality videos and photos.
    What could be improved?
    • We think the flight time could be longer. Asides from that, there's nothing more we can point to. Whether in terms of functionality or quality, the Parrot Anafi is positioned in front of its peers and is ideal for taking videos and photos. There is something to have fun with this compact drone!

Launched in mid-2019, the Anafi FPV includes more software developments (FreeFlight 6 side) than hardware with the appearance of FPV-oriented functions. This drone is mostly sold in a pack with a VR headset carrying bag which we will come back to later. The Anafi FPV has a camera mounted on a 3-axis gimbal. Its 21-megapixel 1 / 2.4 ″ CMOS sensor also offers decent performance.

On the video side, the Parrot Anafi is the most successful compact drone in our review thanks to the possibility of filming in 4K at 30 images per second with a maximum bitrate of up to 100Mb / s. In addition, the HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode improves the performance of the drone on more technical luminosities to be processed. The battery weighs 128 grams for the 2S 2700 mAh Li-Ion. It clips to the back of the drone in a few moments and can be recharged directly with a USB Type-C cable thanks to the socket provided on the back of it. Well done, Parrot!

  • What makes it special?
    • We liked the Follow Me feature. It covers your adventures automatically regardless of where you go. We also like the GPS. It does not just give you an accurate location of the drone. As soon as it loses signal or the power is down, the drone flies back to you automatically.
    What cons did we find?
    • It's not the best for outdoor flights. It is designed for indoor flights. Also, it's not an option if you are looking for a compact or lightweight drone.

The DEERC DE22 is an FPV drone with a 4K camera and 5 times zoom capacity. This upgraded camera lets you capture more details while the drone is flying. It has a gimbal stabilization system that lets the camera provide ultra-clear and super-smooth footage.  It has an intelligent design that ensures a stable and safe flight. It flies with a brushless motor with a 5 level wind resistance. So, it can reach 43.2 kilometers per hour maximum at a quieter mode. Using the device is quite easy. You only need one key to start it. Landing is also as smooth.

It’s ideal for those looking for a drone with GPS positioning and image tracking feature. The GPS ensures you always get an accurate location of the drone. Then, when it loses signal or the power is down, the drone flies back to you automatically. The controller supports up to 4,900 feet control distance and 3,900 feet FPV transmission distance. All these ensure smooth live streaming, ensuring you can see clearer, and fly further.

  • What do we love it for?
    • Overall, the drone has great value. It has a very versatile camera, a GPS-supported flight with Follow me feature, excellent image, and video quality, and it's incredibly simple to use.
    What were we disappointed with?
    • The only problem is that Holy Stone drones generally cost a lot of money, and this one is no exception. It also has a limited flight time of 15 minutes, which is why it's ranked fourth in our ranking. Regardless, it is certainly one of the best FPV drones for beginners.

At first glance, it’s a great FPV drone that looks quite modern. Don’t let that put you off as it’s ideal for beginners. The drone features a controller joystick as well as a smartphone drive system that allows you to plug in your phone while watching the FPV action through a drone app.

Why we think the drone is ideal for beginners includes that it is GPS-assisted. This feature can assist you to learn to drive. Additionally, this drone has a convenient onboard 720 pixels WiFi camera whose angle can be adjusted.

  • Why is it special?
    • We were surprised by the quality of the smartphone control. The commands respond without latency and the drone responds with a certain fluidity. It reacts well to its environment. Another important point: The Dji Tello is extremely stable, and its hovering mode is impeccable.
    What are the flaws?
    • It has a small downside; the wind resistance is not the most optimal as we have seen. This is obviously due to its small size and low weight. The Dji Tello does not have obstacle detectors, but for safety, the drone will stop its propellers and the engine will shut off if it hits an obstacle.

The DJI Tello is an RTF (ready to fly) drone, meaning it can fly right out of the box. There will therefore be no extraordinary manipulations to accomplish before making it fly. Just place the drone on a flat surface and then press the “On” button. Then launch the Tello application, connect the smartphone to Wi-Fi. Use the automatic take-off function and you are ready to go thanks to the virtual joysticks. To land safely, it is easiest to use the automatic landing mode at the start.

Care should be taken to take care of the lens because it does not have a protective cap as can be seen on some drones such as the DJI Mavic Pro for example. As we said, the DJI Tello must be flown using a smartphone. But it is possible to buy the remote control separately. This will allow it to be a little more precise on piloting. The “Tello” application is compatible with Gamesir Remote Controller or Apple MFi BlueTooth radio controls.

    Things to Consider

A drone is a small flying vehicle that consists of four propellers, hence it is also called a quadcopter which is controlled by remote control. A VR drone is an even more interesting model to opt for. However, there is a wide range of drones and prices, from beginner models to the most common virtual reality drones and brands such as Parrot Drones and DJI Drones. This is why in this section, we’ll guide you to knowing what these drones are and how to choose.

How Do VR Drone Sets Work?

Top 6 VR Drones on the Market – Presence Effect with Ultimate Control and Stability (Fall 2024)

The first question that you may be asking is, what is a VR or FPV drone and how is it different from standard drones? VR drones are unmanned aerial vehicles with a camera that allow the user to put themselves in the place of the drone and enjoy the views in real-time with the use of FPV glasses.

The nickname “VR” refers to virtual reality Trusted Source What is Virtual Reality (VR)? The Complete WIRED Guide | WIRED Everything you ever wanted to know about VR headsets, Oculus, Vive, and simulator sickness. www.wired.com since, with VR glasses, you can enjoy augmented reality and generate the sensation of first-person flight.

In reality, the VR drone is handled the same way as the normal one and its main difference is the use of these glasses to have a first-person aerial view of the places that our quadcopter flies over. Even if we have our glasses on, we must pilot the drone from the station, smartphone, or tablet if it allows it.

The first thing to keep in mind is that, to pilot a drone in FPV, you have to download the app to view the video in real-time on both your tablet and your smartphone. Thanks to the VR glasses, you can take the smartphone to the glasses and immerse yourself in the flight in first person.

Features to Consider Before You Buy a VR Drone

Some of the features to consider before buying these drones are the following:

    Camera

For many drone pilots, recording aerial photos play an important role. If you want to buy a drone with a camera, you should consider a few factors. How high-quality the recordings appear depends not only on the skill of the pilot but also on the resolution and the frames per second for videos, the megapixel value, the format for photos, and the image stabilization.

How sharp the videos recorded with the drone appear depends on the video resolution. It is given by the number of horizontal and vertical pixels. Drones from the lower price range mostly film with an HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. High-quality models can record 4K videos with 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. The first four drones in our ranking have 4K high-definition cameras, from the DJI FPV to the DEERC DE22.

In general, the following applies: the higher the resolution, the sharper the images appear. How smooth the videos appear depends on how many images the camera can record per second. A drone camera should work with at least 25 frames per second. In the case of fast rotations, there may still be delays in playback at this value. If you want videos that are as smooth as possible, you should pay attention to a drone camera with at least 60 frames per second.

Image stabilization also plays a crucial role in VR quadrocopters. It is responsible for compensating for vibrations and ensuring the most shake-free images possible. We differentiate between electronic and mechanical image stabilization. Electronic image stabilization is considered to be more effective, as it compensates for the camera shake digitally. The picture is mechanically generated using a gimbal stabilizer. In general, the more axes the gimbal has, the more effectively it can counteract camera shake.

    Flight Time

Another characteristic of the virtual reality drone is its autonomy. In many cases, it exceeds 25 minutes of flight time at full speed, except for the Holy Stone HS100 and the DJI Tello, which can only fly for a maximum of 15 and 13 minutes, respectively. However, there are models such as the DJI Mavic Air 2 which can fly for more than 30 minutes. If you want to enjoy more flight time, you must bet on spare batteries.

    Control and Transmission Distance

The range of a drone is defined as the maximum link distance between the aircraft and the remote control. In other words, if the drone flies beyond this distance, it will be difficult to pilot and its course will systematically end in a crash. Fortunately, some models such as the DEERC DE22 are designed to return to you automatically once the battery is low or it goes out of range.

So, if you have a fairly large budget, you can opt for a drone that is equipped with the automatic return function that is automatically triggered as soon as the maximum range is exceeded.

    Take-off Weight

The takeoff weight will also define the autonomy and speed of the drone. And not just that. The takeoff weight is also a criterion that shows whether it complies with the regulation standard. The FAA classifies an aircraft as an unmanned aircraft vehicle if it has a takeoff weight of less than 55 pounds Trusted Source Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Regulations (Part 107) | Federal Aviation Administration The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules for small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or “drone,” operations cover a broad spectrum of commercial and government uses for drones weighing less than 55 pounds. Highlights of the rule, 14 CFR Part 107, follow. Operating Requirements Just a www.faa.gov . Thankfully, most VR drones are well compliant with this standard.

    Ease of Use

For ease of use, the device must arrive ready for use and should come with a remote controller, and must be controllable with a smartphone app. All you have to do is insert its battery, then turn it on after having previously started the radio remote control and FPV headset.

These “FPV goggles”, as they are sometimes called, look like a virtual reality headset. There is no virtual environment here, however, or even 3D, it is a matter of observing live what the drone is filming via its camera, to have the impression of flying directly on board.

    Size

The size and weight of an aerial drone are important for two things: transporting and securing heavy objects. Anyone likely to transport their drone often – for example when hiking or camping – should make sure that the aircraft is not too big and heavy. Large dimensions are advantageous when heavy objects such as SLR or video cameras are to be attached to the drone.

The relative weight plays a role here. A 30-gram drone is unlikely to be able to fly with a 1,000-gram camera. If the drone itself weighs several kilograms, the relative weight of the camera is lower and the probability that the drone can fly with it is higher.

Many drones can be folded up, which means that the dimensions can often be reduced by half. This enables the aircraft to be transported more easily

    Price

The cost of purchasing a new drone can vary greatly depending on the model. In the entry-level drone segment, many devices can be had in the double-digit range. In this area, users have to make compromises in terms of camera quality, signal range, and flight duration.

In the mid-range, there are many models that record videos with 4K resolution and have a range of several 1,000 meters. If you don’t want to make any compromises in terms of equipment, you should buy a quadrocopter from the upper price range. Here, drone pilots have to reckon with a four-digit investment in any case. In general, the following costs should be expected when buying a drone:

    • Lower price range: drones for beginners – price $50 to $300.
    • Middle range: Drones for advanced users – price $300 to $4,000.
    • Upper range: Drones for professionals or commercial purposes – price from $4,000.

    FAQ

Some of the drones which support virtual reality are the DJI FPV drone, the DJI Mavic Air 2 drone, Parrot Anafi FPV, the DEERC DE22, the Holy Stone HS100, and the DJI Tello. The Mavic Mini also supports virtual reality.

You’ll need to register your drone with the FAA if it weighs more than 0.55 lbs or 250 grams. Drones weighing less than that however don’t need to be registered.
